Small talk in the lunchroom

The weekend question — answer, ask back, keep it flowing

The situation

You: Monday noon in the staff kitchen. Your colleague Chantal sits down across from you.

Them: Chantal, a friendly coworker from another team.

Goal: Survive — no, enjoy — five minutes of natural small talk: weekend, weather, plans.

The conversation (French & English)

Salut !
Hi! So, how was your weekend?

Very good! We went apple picking with the kids. First time — it was really nice. And you?

Ah, classique d'automne !
Ah, a fall classic! Me, quiet — some cleaning, and we watched the hockey game Saturday night.

Le Canadien a gagné, au moins ?
Did the Canadiens win, at least?

En prolongation ! Tu suis le hockey, toi ?
In overtime! You follow hockey?

J'apprends !
I am learning! At first I understood nothing, but now I know the rules. My son has become a real fan.

You should take him to see a junior game, it is cheaper and the atmosphere is great.

Bonne idée, ça ! C'est où, les matchs juniors ?
Good idea! Where are the junior games?

At the Verdun arena, Friday nights. I will send you the schedule.

Merci ! Bon, je retourne travailler. À plus tard !
Thanks! Well, back to work. See you later!
